Elevator Construction - Summer, 2002

While the Ballard Masonic Center is "dark" this summer (2002), an elevator is being installed to serve the groups which meet there.  It will be located just inside the front door on Market Street, and will service three floors:  the basement, ground floor, and the Lodge floor.

Work is first starting in the basement, where a "service pit" must be installed to allow access to the bottom of the elevator.  The first pictures where taken on June 20th after WB Richard Castleberry and WB Barry Knowles had broken and removed the concrete floor, and dug out the pit area.  In the process, unforeseen sewer pipes had to be moved, and trouble with the water table had to be addressed.

At this stage, figuring out what to do with the 500 gallons a day of water was being worked out

Here is the rubble of the Temple.

Anybody want to start a work party to hand carry all the dirt and concrete back upstairs?

Following the June Stated Meeting (Hawaiian Shirt Night), a number of craftsmen go down for a look-see.

All eyes are on the pit
